Unforgivingly skimpy

I'm new to bead crochet, although I do know how to crochet a little bit already. I know how to handle the hook and the yarn. I'm wanting a lot of instruction about how to get startedwith bead ropes, with good photos and diagrams. I'm giving this book two stars for a couple of reasons:

First, the actual bead crochet instructions are well photographed, but are very confusing. She skips steps and many times I was left scratching my head about where to put the needle. Although the colored beads with contrasting red thread was helpful, sometimes it just didn't make sense. Diagrams with arrows instead of photos, or more clear instructions, would have been useful.

Second, the designs aren't very good and I was very uninspired by them. I expected to see more pattern development with variations, but the author is more into embellishment and gewgaws.

Finally, it was a waste of money for the amount of instruction and size of the book The book is very skimpy in pages and worth about $8.95. It's not a book, it's a pamphlet. I'm returning it. It appears by looking that her other "books" that she's attempting to cash in by breaking down the subject into various small books so she can make more money. The author does appear to be knowledgable, but each book is a just chapter of what could be one good larger book. It seems like she's just milking her audience and this is a turn-off.

As an alternative book, I highly recommend "Crafting Conundrums" instead. It covers all of what this authors covers in all of her high-priced pamphlets, and then some.

Helped me finally learn the technique.

Excellent. Got me finally startedbon the crocheted beads! Also gave me inspirations for some patterns, but would like more. Also watched Ann Benson's excellent tutorial on YouTube. Between the two, I feel I now have it figured out.

This is a cute short story about Jewel, David and Daniel. Jewel married David, who has an identical twin Daniel. All their lives David and Daniel have shared everything! Now apparently they're going to share Jewel.

David and Daniel ease Jewel into the sharing idea by using jokes and innuendo. David and Daniel were raised in a very open and bohemian lifestyle while Jewel's upbringing was more traditional. Even though her upbringing was more traditional, she has fantasies and David and Daniel want to help her live those fantasies out.

I've waffled between 3 and 4 stars, finally deciding on 3.5 stars (I'll round up). The story flowed nicely and P.S. Love did an excellent job of taking into consideration the consequences of a m�nage relationship. I was a bit disturbed by David when he wanted to deceive Jewel. Daniel didn't want to deceive Jewel and it made me feel like he loves Jewel more than David.

The erotic sex scenes were pretty hot. P.S. Love tended to switch between the flowery and the crude. I'm not much of flowery prose during erotic scenes. I want to be told how it is!

Overall this is an enjoyable book. While it is a m�nage story, there is NO sexual interaction between the twins, David and Daniel. They're just voyeurs!

They pushed her a little too much about her fantasies. That bothered me some, she wasn't ready to admit that fantasies are something you'd like to happen. She explained it very well, fantasies are something you can control but real life is never like that. I'm not sure if what the twins did there was helpful in the long run or if they should have just let her figure it out on her own.

I loved the banter at the start of the book, poor Jewel wasn't sure if they were serious or joking! I wasn't sure either and I knew where they were going to end up. There's a little bit of bondage in this book, they do mention BDSM but there isn't really any in the book, aside from the bondage.

I also didn't like that they didn't tell Jewel that David can't have kids. That plot line seemed a little sudden to me, since the chapter before they'd been talking about having kids and suddenly he knows he can't have kids and wants his twin brother to have kids with his wife. I kind of wanted them to try their plan, but she would have killed them if she found out! I wouldn't have been able to blame her!

There were a few misused words and grammar errors, but I just noticed them for a moment and went on (mostly because I knew I'd be reviewing this book). It was well written otherwise.

About the Author
David Goldblatt was born in London in 1965 and lives in Bristol. He shares his affections between Tottenham Hotspur and Bristol Rovers. He is the author of The Ball is Round: A Global History of Football and Futebol Nation: The Story of Brazil Through Soccer. Since then he has made sport documentaries for BBC Radio, reviewed sports books for the TLS and the Guardian, taught the sociology of sport at Bristol University, the International Centre for Sports History and Culture, De Montfort University, Leicester and Pitzer College, Los Angeles.

Themes and topics are familiar, but Goldblatt provides deep and exhaustive analysis

I started following the EPL when I studied in London in 1994. I acquired tickets through my school to see the US Men's National Team, fresh off a surprise run as hosts of the World Cup, play England in the old Wembley. Of course, I rooted for my national side, but I was deeply impressed by several English players, especially Ian Wright, and my love affair with the EPL, and specifically Arsenal, was born.

As a long time fan, the general topics and themes of Goldblatt's book are familiar to me, so I hope the serious EPL follower doesn't expect to be surprised by the ground covered. However, the exhaustive nature of his explanations, the myriad examples he provides, and the manner in which he connects the development of football with the social and economic forces external to it, deepened my understanding of this world. At the heart of his assessment is how association football--fairly recently seen by some in British society as the brutish sport of the working class-grew into a global phenomenon and economic powerhouse while the industrial England that had sustained it faded out of existence. There are also insightful sections on football's delayed progress in racial integration and on the incompetence and glacial evolution of the FA. Certainly worth a read for any fan of the English game.

I enjoyed this since I am an American fan of English ...

I enjoyed this since I am an American fan of English football. I didn't want a detailed blow-by-blow discussion of the Leagur=e results year-by-year. Rather, correlating the goings on in the Football Leagues with British society was very interesting. I really enjoyed the section comparing English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish football history.

Uneven

I found this very unevenly written, lurching from slangy references ("blokes", "dolly birds", "the never-never") to some paragraphs that seem to require a doctorate in socio-economic theory to make any sense. I think you need to be REALLY interested in the history of English football to wade through it. The chapter dealing with the origins of the clubs in the Premier League was very interesting (although slang-ridden); the other chapters very dry.

A better editorial pencil would help (there is no such team as the "Tampa Bay Bucks" in the NFL) and a more consistent stylistic tone to even out the narrative would be welcome. I think Stefan Szymanski's "Soccernomics" (cited in this book) does a much better job of explaining the financial implications of the football world, the Premier League included.

The discussion of scientific methods is woven into the text throughout. They have included numerous examples of human interaction with the Earth that can serve as entry points for students to appreciate the nature of science. Global change is a theme that is evident in much current Earth Science research so our authors have used global change as a content theme throughout the book.

Great Book About Overall Knowledge About Earth Science

This book was required for my Earth Science Class, for most people this was a boring class, but for me it was amazing. If you're into learning about how the Universe was born, life was formed (both theories of course) and how interesting it is to learn about how things happen (all things Natural Disasters),how volcanoes are formed and how do they work(areas where you can find them),different types of tides that hit during a tsunami,earthquakes(how to measure one and read it)and the amazing technologies in progress that make our lives easier every day, this book is for you!(solar panel,wind turbines,water turbines that use tide variation to produce energy,also the early warning system for earthquakes at open sea,etc.)
This is an old version I know,but contains much of what you need to know about the subject!

Digestable text, logical, and colorful graphic aids and pictures

I got this book for my GEO Science class during the summer.

When comparing how readable it is to other dry books such as accounting, negotiation, and etc this book is actually not bad on the brain on late night hours of studying.

The order of the way each chapter goes over the material makes sense and makes for even easier and logical reading.

There are various aids of which are mostly computer graphics of volcanoes, landscape, meteorite crashes, earth quake zones and other natural processes that occur on Earth to help you understand and learn better from the chapter.

Again the aids I mentioned above are colorful and are an integral part to you understanding the material.

You will learn a lot from this book in a very practical and helpful fashion. For me made the difference between a "C" and an "A."
