We love this item

We love this item! However, we were disappointed that it came used, I thought I bought a new book, it was for a gift, but I will try to get another one later: according to the front cover, there should be 40 colored sheets (there were only 33) inside the book's custom folder that holds the papers, three were paper plane folded at the pages; the cover itself was worn and slightly scratched, but now I see that I had bought it used...very disappointed!

While some of the designs in this book are golden oldies, it includes designs with which I am unfamiliar. All of the designs fly well, and I was particularly pleased with the paper provided to make the airplanes. The paper is lighter weight than printer paper or loose leaf lined paper that folded easily and retained its folds well.

The instructions in the book are very easy to follow, and will get you flying in no time, though they are too complex for younger children. My 5 year old needs help with making these planes, but once completed, they fly easily, even when he's throwing them.

Bottom line: I'd buy this book again, and recommend it for all novice paper pilots.

Brings out the kid in all of us

I've bought this book several times as a gift and it generally gets a lot of interest from kids and adults alike. My copy is many years old and it gets pulled out regularly when 8 and 6 year old grandchildren visit. I've long ago used up the paper it comes with and instead just use copier paper that we sometimes color with crayons. 8 year old can make the planes himself, 6 year old still needs help. Book contains flying and adjustment tips. The kids and I enjoy flying the planes we make. I highly recommend this book for someone starting out making paper airplanes or someone that needs a good "go to book" to make airplanes that always fly.

Over the past decade, the emergence of minimally invasive lateral access spine surgery has created a revolution in spine treatment. This trend began with the introduction of extreme lateral interbody fusion, a totally new spinal procedure. In recent years, the conversion of more than 15% of lumbar spinal fusion procedures to a lateral approach has been due to the unique advantages of this approach over conventional anterior or posterior surgery. About the Author

Michael Y. Wang, MD, FACS, is Professor with Tenure in the Departments of Neurosurgery and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Miami, Florida, USA. Dr. Wang’s previous positions include Spine Program Director, Department of Neurosurgery, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and Chief, Spine Surgery Program, Rancho Los Amigos Rehabilitation Center, Los Angeles. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons in 2006 and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 2007. Dr. Wang has held a variety of national leadership positions, including as a Member of the AANS/CNS Joint Spine Section Executive Committee (since 2006) and Scientific Program Chair of the AANS/CNS Joint Spine Section (2013–2014). He is a member of several journal editorial review boards, including Journal of Neurosurgery: Spine, Acta Neurochirurgica, and Journal of Spinal Disorders and Techniques. Dr. Wang is the lead or co-author of 107 peer-reviewed journal publications. He has co-edited several previous books, including Minimally Invasive Spinal Deformity Surgery: An Evolution of Modern Techniques (Springer, Vienna, 2013).

Andrew A. Sama, MD, graduated from the University of Miami, School of Medicine, in 1995 and subsequently completed residencies in General and Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Miami–Jackson Memorial Medical Center and a fellowship in Spinal Surgery at The Hospital for Special Surgery, Affiliated with The New York Hospital–Cornell Medical Center, New York. He became a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in 2002 and is currently Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Cornell University Medical College and the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Sama’s hospital appointments are as Associate Attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Hospital for Special Surgery, New York and New York – Presbyterian Hospital. He is a member of the editorial board for Current Reviews in Musculoskeletal Medicine and a reviewer for Spine. Dr. Sama is a longstanding member of Alpha Omega Alpha and was named in America’s Top Doctors (Castle Connolly Medical Guide) in 2013. He has published more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Juan S. Uribe, MD, is Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery and Director of the Spine Section, the Biomechanical Laboratory (Department of Neurological Surgery), and the Cahill Spine Institute at the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida, USA. He is also Director of the Spinal Cord Trauma Committee at Tampa General Hospital. Dr. Uribe studied Medicine at the Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud (CES), Medellin, Colombia and subsequently undertook residencies in Neurosurgery at Hospital San Vicente de Paul, Universidad de Antioquia, Medellin, and the Department of Neurosurgery, University of South Florida and a fellowship in Spine Surgery in the Department of Neurosurgery, The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, University of Miami. Dr. Uribe received a Platinum Annual Research Award from the University of South Florida in 2010, and in 2012 he chaired the Annual Meeting of the Society for Minimally Invasive Surgery (SMISS) in Miami. Impressive Work

Hadzic's Peripheral Nerve Blocks and Anatomy for USGRA offers up to date information for beginners or novice in the field of Regional Anesthesia. Having just purchased the book, i am impressed at what this book has to offer. This is an impressive textbook written by worlds expert in the field. It offers fundamental knowledge on performance of nerve blocks with nerve stimulation as well as ultrasound guidance. What is unique about this textbook is the display of gross anatomical dissections along with ultrasound imaging. This is something that i have never seen in other textbooks. Furthermore, most chapters offer flowcharts that help to summarize important facts and details. This book is a must buy for residents in training and anesthesiologists in practice.

Not a bad book but still antiquated with the majority of the ...

Not a bad book but still antiquated with the majority of the book directed toward stim. Out of 8 sections, only 3 directed toward US. The US section is OK but for the size of this book should have more images of what to avoid (aberrant arteries, et cetera), Would like to see more detail in regard to US. It is pointless focusing just on stim anymore.

Great textbook and atlas!

This is printed on glossy paper throughout with glorious color illustrations. I am a first year Orthopedics and Trauma resident in Japan and I found this extremely helpful and easy to understand. All the recommendations are very practical and based on literature reviews and the ultrasound images are state of the art. The range of techniques described is impressive. All the rarely used and new blocks are here and described in detail so I feel I can start applying them with the book alone even though I don't have anyone to guide me through the procedures here.
On Hokkaido we don't have enough anesthesiologists so when I go to work at a rural hospital next year I would probably have to make extensive use of this manual. Gonna add a review based on clinical experience then.

This book is in the public domain, so you can download it legally for free from several sites on the web; even when Amazon does not offer it (temporary), you can find it for your Kindle.

Arthur Schopenhauer was a German philosopher who lived from 1788-1860; he was influenced among others by Plato and Immanuel Kant, and in his turn influenced Friedrich Nietzsche, Ludwig wittgenstein, Thomas Mann and others. Schopenhauers work is known for its pessimistic views and beautifully written essays. If you like reading philosophy -or would like to try it- then I can recommend reading some of Schopenhauers essays.

This volume contains some essays that were first published in Schopenhauers 'Parerga und Paralopomena' (1851). The printed version of this volume has 101 pages. The contents of this volume:

GOVERNMENT
FREE-WILL AND FATALISM
CHARACTER
MORAL INSTINCT
ETHICAL REFLECTIONS

Accessible Thinking

To take a book on philosophy and pass judgement on it is especially difficult. I think this topic more than others will in a large way play to your beliefs and prejudices - or it wont. With that as one means of measurement I found myself highlighting numerous passages I agreed with. I also found plenty of the book to be very thought provoking. This I would suggest means that the authour has successfully moved the reader (this one at least) outside of their conventional thinking zone - which is surely the actual point - i.e. to learn something.

I found the writing style to be far less self indulgent than you may see on this broad topic elsewhere. This means you aren't constantly unwinding vast amounts of prose before you can feel you have started to understand the argument being made. This isn't to say that books with a more flamboyant style can't be as good as this - it's just that this one is easily absorbed without losing the impact.

I suspect also that most readers will find the views expressed here to be contemporary. It's not old (in the grander scheme of things) but you will find that you need to make little allowance for the changes in the world since it was published. Perhaps in a similar way to Machiavelli, judgements on human nature don't change greatly over the centuries.

As interesting and enlightening as the works of modern writers are, some of us are drawn to the ancient texts. One such very old writing is the "Ashtavakra Gita".

Manuel Schoch, in his book Bitten by the Blacksnake reprints Ashtavakra's sutras and then expounds upon them and what they mean for us in our daily lives.

Little is known about Ashtavakra, but it is believed he lived around the 4th or 5th century BC, which could have had him predating Buddha or at least his contemporary.

The sutras are meant to reflect a dialogue between Ashtavakra and King Janaka on the nature of the soul, reality, and bondage and the means to liberation. The format in the book is to present a sutra and then follow it up with commentary. This allows the reader to form his own conclusions before reading any explanation. Bitten by the Blacksnake is very well done in this way.

I had never read the Ashtavakra Gita, so I was totally unfamiliar with it. I was surprised at the clarity of the words. The author's commentary made it even more meaningful in our modern life. Through this format in examining six different sutras, Ashtavakra and Schoch make an excellent team.

These passages cover suffering, misery, happiness, sense of doership, peace, bondage, witnessing consciousness, ego, stillness, fear, detachment, and awareness. Sounds familiar doesn't it? All of these words are used in spiritual writings found today.

There is such an amazing amount of wisdom in this book. I found that I enjoyed it even more than the "Heart of the Ribhu Gita", of which Ramana Maharshi said repeated reading of this in itself could bring liberation. -- Chapman, enlightenmentdudes.com

I am a longtime student of the Ashtavakra Gita. I have several translations, and a few commentaries. I bought this book to continue my studies. I was extremely disappointed when I got the book. First, it should be made clear that this book does not contain a translation of the Ashtavakra Gita. Only small portions of Thomas Byrom's excellent translation are quoted. It should be noted that while small portions of Byrom's translation are quoted verbatim, no credit nor any indication of permission is given and this may be a copyright violation. But since only a small fraction of the actual Ashtavakra Gita is actually presented here, maybe it qualifies as "fair use", as if quoting for a review. However, nowhere is Byrom credited with the translation.

The contents of this small book are simply an exposition of Manuel Schoch's own philosophy and teaching, having very little resemblance to the teachings of the Ashtavakra Gita. Schoch does try to imply that his own teachings are somehow related to Ashtavakra's, but it's a big stretch to make the connection, to say the least. Schoch not only waters down Ashtavkra's uncompromising non-dualism, he adds a lot of stuff that has nothing to do with Ashtavakra's teachings at all, and are even at odds with them.

I find Schoch's teachings to be highly idiosyncratic and personal to him, bearing no resemblance to Ashtavakra or non-dualism. Students of Schoch may like this book, but those who wish to study the Ashtavakra Gita would do well to look elsewhere.

Excellent Non-Duality text

A very good text, but got the feeling of a (well-versed) student citing very ancient Master! If "new" to Non-Dual/Advaita teachings, it is well done! but I always prefer the writer either having "achieved" that nebulous enlightenment, or at the least, speaking from the heart/experience!

The International Building Code (IBC) is a model building code developed by the International Code Council (ICC). The IBC and its complementary codes provide design and construction professionals with a complete set of comprehensive, coordinated building safety and fire prevention regulations in order to safeguard the public health and general welfare of the occupants of new and existing buildings and structures. Adopted throughout most of the United States and its territories, it is referenced by federal agencies, such as the General Services Administration, National Park Service, Department of State, U.S. Forest Service, and the Department of Defense. For architects and other design and construction professionals, it is particularly important that they understand how to apply the IBC and how code officials view buildings, so that they integrate code-required provisions in the earliest design stages of any project.

Applying the IBC, as well as its companion codes, to building design is a process that is uniquely different to that of applying the building code during a planning review. Whereas other guide books explain the IBC in sequential order, from cover to cover, chapter by chapter, and section by section, Applying the Building Code explains the requirements of the IBC as they would apply during the common phases of design: from schematic design through to the preparation of construction documents. This effectively highlights applicable requirements of the building code at the appropriate stage of design based on available information.

Ronald L. Geren, FCSI, AIA, CCS, CCCA, SCIP, is the owner of RLGA Technical Services, a building code and specifications consulting firm in Scottsdale, Arizona. He has over 30 years' experience in the construction industry with multiple building types, working in design firms and as an owner's representative. He is a professor of architecture at Taliesin, the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, where he teaches building codes, building construction technology, construction documents, and architectural practice management. Ronald is also a certified building plans examiner, certified construction specifier, and a certified construction contract administrator.
