From finding him at last. you know the "him" The one who could ring her chimes, Crisp her bacon, make her feel as if she stood in a puddle of water and someone dropped in an electrical cord...with it still plugged in the wall~ (yea that good) Annnnnd
Lust that was tangible enough to touch. and She wanted to touch him...bad.
I love his line after he walks up to her...

"You didn't have to be-spell me to get me into your bed," he looked her up and down, planted his hands on her hips and pulled her up against him. "All you had to do was ask."

I don't have a clue what this collection of odd short stories is all about--sorry! I read two, and I have to assume it's a woman thing. I got it because my wife enjoyed the movie "Ella Enchanted," and I somehow thought this book was related, you know, kind of like the zillions of novels that have "Twilight" in the titles are related (another favorite of my wife's--look, I don't ask; we've been married many decades, raised kids, seen gradkids and greatgrandkids--do you think I haven't learned anything in all these years!)

About the Author
�

Ben G. Streetman is Dean Emeritus of the College of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He is an Emeritus Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, where he held the Dula D. Cockrell Centennial Chair. He was the founding Director of the Microelectronics Research Center (1984—96). His teaching and research interests involve semiconductor materials and devices. After receiving a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin (1966) he was on the faculty (1966–1982) of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He returned to The University of Texas at Austin in 1982. His honors include the Education Medal of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Frederick Emmons Terman Medal of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), and the Heinrich Welker Medal from the International Conference on Compound Semiconductors. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and the Electrochemical Society. He has been honored as a Distinguished Alumnus of The University of Texas at Austin and as a Distinguished Graduate of the UT College of Engineering. He has received the General Dynamics Award for Excellence in Engineering Teaching, and was honored by the Parents’ Association as a Teaching Fellow for outstanding teaching of undergraduates. He has served on numerous panels and committees in industry and government, and several corporate boards. He has published more than 290 articles in the technical literature. Thirty five students of Electrical and Computer Engineering have received their Ph.D. under his supervision.

Sanjay Kumar Banerjee is the Cockrell Chair Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Director of the Microelectronics Research Center at The University of Texas at Austin. This book is absolutely useless. The material is written in such a way that you'd have to reread it at least 10 more times before you had a slight understanding of what was talked about. Some sections of the chapters even leave out material that you'd need to know to do later chapter problems... I used this textbook in my Solid State Electronic Devices course and it didn't help one bit.

The way that the author wrote the book is like talking in his head! He's not trying to elaborate or explain the material in a fluent and easy way. Wikipedia is way better than this book!

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) offer an incomparable means of gathering intelligence and carrying out missions without needing an onboard human pilot. The benefits are considerable in terms of cost, efficiency, and reduced pilot risk.

In order to complete a mission efficiently and with a high level of safety and security, the following key design points must be met:

• the flight control system must be robust against the aircraft’s model uncertainties and external disturbances;

• an efficient fault detection and isolation (FDI) system should be capable of monitoring the health of the aircraft; and

• the flight control and guidance system should be reconfigurable depending on actuator fault occurrence or aircraft damage, and should be able to avoid obstacles.

Fault-tolerant Flight Control and Guidance Systems addresses all of these aspects with a practical approach following three main requirements: being applicable in real-time; highly computationally efficient; and modular. The text provides:

• an overview of fault-tolerant flight control techniques;

• the necessary equations for the modeling of small UAVs;

• a complete nonlinear FDI system based on extended Kalman filters; and

• a nonlinear flight control and guidance system.

The book is written in a didactic style with many figures and diagrams making it suitable not only for academic researchers and practicing engineers but also graduate students working in the fields of fault detection techniques and the automatic control of UAVs.

About the Author

Between 2002 and 2004, Guillaum Ducard worked with the team designing the Pac-Car 2, designing hardware and control software for embedded fuel cell systems. The vehicle holds the world record for fuel economy. Since 2004, Doctor Ducard has been interested in hardware and software for unmanned aerial vehicles including fixed-wing aeroplanes, high-altitude atmospheric air ships and quadricopters. He received his Dr.Sc. degree from ETH in 2007. His current research involves the design of navigation algorithms, flight control and guidance systems for quadricopters. Guillaume Ducard is a member of the IEEE and of the AIAA.

The monograph is very interesting, well written and well organised. It is of interest to a wide range of readers from the industrial and the control communities. Academic researchers and graduate students working in the mobile autonomous vehicle field may find transferable knowledge in this well-structured monograph and it will obviously appeal to aerospace researchers and engineers.
Regarding the book structure, Chapter 1 provides the main motivations of the monograph. Chapter 2 focuses on a literature review about the fault-tolerant flight control systems already developed for aircraft. Chapter 3 presents the nonlinear model used for simulation and control design. Chapter 4 describes a new system for the detection and isolation of actuator faults in an aircraft. Chapter 5 details the design and the implementation of a reconfigurable control allocation module. Chapter 6 describes the technique known as nonlinear dynamic inversion and presents the architecture and the design procedure of the controllers used in the aircraft autopilot. Chapter 7 is dedicated to the analysis and control of the longitudinal axis of the aircraft and presents architecture for the altitude controller that uses robust NDI in all the control loops. Chapter 8 is dedicated to the analysis and control of the lateral-directional motion of the aircraft. It describes the controllers for the roll and yaw rates, for the roll angle, and for the sideslip angle. Chapter 9 presents a new adaptive path-planning algorithm, which reconfigures the aircraft's trajectory based on its flying performance after the occurrence of an actuator failure. Chapter 10 focuses on an aileron failure and shows how the degraded flying performance can be evaluated and used to reconfigure the guidance system. Finally, the book concludes with an outlook and summarizes the methods presented.

About the Author
George M. Marakas is an associate professor of Information Systems at the School of Business at the University of Kansas. His teaching expertise includes Systems Analysis and Design, Technology-Assisted Decision Making, Electronic Commerce, Management of IS Resources, Behavioral IS Research Methods, and Data Visualization and Decision Support. In addition, George is an active researcher in the area of Systems Analysis Methods, Data Mining and Visualization, Creativity Enhancement, Conceptual Data Modeling, and Computer Self-Efficacy. George received his PhD in Information Systems from Florida International University in Miami and his MBA from Colorado State University. Throughout his academic career, George has distinguished himself both through his research and in the classroom. He has received numerous national teaching awards and his research has appeared in the top journals in his field. In addition to this text, he is also the author of three best-selling textbooks in information systems: Decision Support Systems for the 21st Century, Systems Analysis and Design: An Active Approach, and Data Warehousing, Mining, and Visualization: Core Concepts.

James A. O'Brien completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Hawaii and Gonzaga University and earned an MS and PhD in Business Administration from the University of Oregon. He has been professor and coordinator of the CIS area at Northern Arizona University, professor of Finance and Management Information Systems and chairman of the Department of Management at Eastern Washington University, and a visiting professor at the University of Alberta, the University of Hawaii, and Central Washington University. Jim's research interests lie in developing and testing basic conceptual frameworks used in information systems development and management. He has written eight books, including several that have been published in multiple editions. He has also contributed to the field of information systems through the publication of many articles in business and academic journals, as well as through his participation in academic and industry associations in the field of information systems.

Okay book and outdated with older sources and references.

This book covered good relevant topics of businesses information systems and technology. I used it during Term One, Fall 2016 for my masters degree. My biggest gripe is that the current edition is very outdated. There are countless examples and references of businesses that were startups, listed as successful when the book was written in 2009. However, several examples were touted as great IS examples but had failed not soon after the book was written.
There are lots of old pictures too that need updating. One example is a server room with ancient IBM server stacks that look circa early 1990's.
The most annoying part of reading this book was the constant reference to the first generation iPhone. The book kept touting that the iPhone and other smart phones will change how humans will conduct business, e-commerce, etc. For me to get through the entire book I had to look past the old info and remind myself that technology advances fast. While reading the book, I would put the iPhone 7 in my minds eye and insert iPhone 7 into the text whenever I would read iPhone. That is how outdated the book is. There are countless references and sources listed throughout the book using early 2000's charts, graphs, and mid to late 2000's as being the most recent.
This book is still valuable as it teaches the basics of data storage and data systems which is the foundation that todays IS still are based on.

A valuable resource for IT study

I purchased this book used for a graduate course I am taking. It arrived on time and in excellent condition. Some minor content it could be updated but with the rapid pace of changes in IT this text does a good job of framing the issues despite potential technological advances. It does provide enough detail as an excellent source of knowledge for information technology and information systems. Highly Recommended.

Spectroscopic methods have opened up a new horizon in our knowledge of solid-state materials. Numerous techniques using electromagnetic radiation or charged and neutral particles have been invented and worked out to a high level in order to provide more detailed information on the solids. The text presented here is an updated description of such methods as they were originally presented in the first edition. It covers linear response of solids to electromagnetic radiation in a frequency range extending from megahertz or gigahertz as used in spin resonance spectroscopy, to infrared spectroscopy and various forms of spectroscopy in the visible and near visible spectral range. It extends to spectroscopy in the UV and x-ray spectral range and eventually several spectroscopic methods are addressed in the frequency range of g radiation. Likewise linear response to irradiation with particles such as electrons, positrons, muons, neutrons, and atoms is discussed. Instrumental and technical background is provided as well as application to the analysis of the solid state.

New developments especially addressed in this second edition cover the exciting new field of mesoscopic and nanoscopic solids using light scattering from small particles, single electron (addition) spectroscopy, and quantization in magnetic fields. Likewise, the development and application of synchrotron radiation has encountered a dramatic progress particularly in the field of high resolution and angular resolved photoelectron spectroscopy. Free electron lasers from undulators in linear accelerators are becoming available with dramatic enhancement in brightness and provide a fourth generation of synchrotron light sources. The better understanding and the possibilities to manipulate spin states as it happens in spintronic research stimulated sophisticated technologies in electron and nuclear spin resonance which are also covered in the new edition. Breakthrough developments were obtained in the field of light emission from semiconductor devices and for femtosecond spectroscopy. In addition in almost all other spectroscopic techniques progress was obtained in the last years and is reviewed in the text. Thus the book may be considered as a state-of-the-art introductory text in solid-state spectroscopy.

Each chapter includes problems. The concept of this textbook is designed for graduate students and young professors who want to set up lectures or courses in solid-state spectroscopy.
